The Brewster Fire Department has a simple, yet powerful reminder for all residents of our Town. On Sunday March 11 we moved our clocks forward one hour for daylight-savings time. We ask you to take this opportunity to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and test them to ensure they are in proper working order. This is a very simple solution to improve the life safety of your family and reduce the potential for fire related fatalities, injuries, and property damage should a fire occur within your home.
Statistically, almost 66% of home fire deaths in the United States occur in private homes with no working smoke detectors. In consideration of this fact we urge you to keep your family safe by testing and changing the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors during this week.
