Beginning May 5th, the Brewster Recycle Center will accept Organic Materials. Please review the below guidelines for Acceptable Organics. If you need assistance, ask one of our friendly attendants or call the Department of Public Works at 508-896-3212.
The Brewster Recycling Commission and Department of Public Works are pleased to announce Brewster has joined a growing number of Cape communities that
accept organic materials!
ACCEPTABLE ORGANICS include: Food scraps, coffee grounds, egg shells, meat, fish, dairy products, flowers, and houseplants* (see exception below).
Organics/materials that are ABSOLUTELY EXCLUDED:
- Large bones such as ham, lamb, beef
- Walnut shells
- Diseased plants*
- Human or pet waste
- Kitty litter
- Food containers, including glass, plastic, aluminum foil, tins, paper, cardboard, plastic coated paper plates (when it doubt, throw it out in yellow bag!)
Oyster and clam shells: Recycle these at the Department of Natural Resources offices on Main Street.
Leaf, yard trimmings, etc.: Deposit in the Recycling Center yard composting area, not in the 65 gallon, lidded organics collection bins.
