Farm To Table Introduces Students to Oyster Cultivation

Ryan Burch from the Brewster DNR accompanied by Brewster oyster grower Alex Carlson hosted students from the NRHS as part of the schools, "Farm to Table Field Trip Program." The students were introduced to the Town's Oyster farm at Mants Landing with a lesson on shellfish aquaculture starting with oyster reproduction and ending with harvesting. Learning where food comes from is an important lesson for students as they will soon be making choices on where to buy their food from. Students also learned some tasty recipes to bring home or to try in the classroom. The Brewster DNR works closely with local and visiting schools to talk with students about shellfish aquaculture and environmental issues that Cape Cod faces.
