Electronic Herring Counters Installed

It is still a bit early for a fish sighting, but work to be ready for the spring herring run is underway. Yesterday, representatives from the Mass. Division of Marine Fisheries worked with Brewster's Natural Resources Department to install a new electronic herring counter on Stony Brook. The goal of the counter is to improve the accuracy of herring population estimates, since they track fish around the clock as opposed to human counters who are on duty for brief spans of time. The accuracy of the electronic counter will be checked against the visual counts done by volunteers.
