Brewster Natural Resources and IFAW Respond to Dolphin Strandings

Five dolphins were stranded yesterday off Ellis Landing at the 2:30 pm low tide. Brewster Natural Resources worked with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and their response team, who are authorized to work with marine mammals here on the cape. Two of the animals were refloated, but were unable to be assisted; they likely restranded today in Wellfleet. Three others were brought in, their health was assessed, and they were released at West Dennis Beach.

Chris Miller of Brewster Natural Resources was the initial responder and notified IFAW. They responded with staff, equipment and trucks, volunteers and a group from AmeriCorp. Overall the effort required about 25 people for the three dolphins, including over a dozen AmeriCorp members.
