Thanks to all who participated in the second annual spring "Learn to Shellfish" program put on by the Brewster Natural Resources Department and Brewster Rec. We had a great couple of days on the flats harvesting steamers, quahogs and littlenecks, and learning more about our natural environment.
We held the program on Thursday mid day at Mant's Landing, where we learned about the town's oyster propagation program, and discussed habitat and likely areas to find the tastiest shellfish on the cape. We learned to identify the local shellfish and some predators as well.
Later, we dug some quahogs and steamers. A fun, sunny event.
On Friday, we met at Ellis Landing to practice our skills digging more steamers, then participated in the spring Littleneck Beds week.
