Open burning season in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts begins on January 15, 2022 and ends on May 1, 2022. To safely conduct an open burn of brush residents must first obtain a permit from the Brewster Fire Department. Permits will be available beginning Wednesday January 5.
Permits may be purchased Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:0 p.m. at fire headquarters. To limit staff interaction with the public and support the health and safety of our personnel during the ongoing COVID pandemic we are limiting purchasing hours to the time indicated above.
Permits will not be sold on weekends and/or holidays
- Permits will be available in the main lobby of fire headquarters located at 1671 Main Street (behind Council-on-Aging)
- Permit fee is $10.00
- When burning residents shall follow all Commonwealth of Massachusetts open burning regulations and the daily call-in process identified on the application.
The Brewster Fire Department retains the right to suspend burning during unacceptable weather conditions and revoke the permits of those individuals violating State open burning regulations. We respectfully request all residents take the time to read the safety precautions and rules regarding open burning and to be considerate of your neighbors and the environment when conducting these fires.
