A Dog Park Is In Brewster's Future

The Stanton Foundation, a charitable organization created to support the intentions of its founder, Dr. Stanton, recently awarded Brewster a $25,000 grant for the professional design of a dog park. One of the Foundation’s primary areas of interest is canine health and welfare. Brewster is most appreciative of the Foundation’s generous support in assisting with the design of a superior dog park. We look forward to applying to the Foundation for the second phase of the program, a construction grant.

The planned site for the park is to be located off of Route 124 adjacent to the Town Cemetery as recommended by the Dog Park Development Committee, and voted on by the Select Board in December 2017.

The search for an approved landscape architect to prepare specifications and drawings is forthcoming. This designer is to meet the Stanton Foundation’s qualification criteria of having previously designed at least one dog park or having extensive experience in outdoor public space design. Our ecosystem is unique and we look forward to working with a designer who has experience and knowledge of our local lands and habitat surroundings.

Individuals interested in providing input in the design and subsequent operation of Brewster’s dog park are encouraged to attend the Dog Park Development Committee meetings on the second Thursday of the month at the Brewster Town Offices; or one may communicate with the Committee at dogpark@brewster-ma.gov.

We look forward to providing an appropriate park for our canine friends to socialize and exercise with their owners in the foreseeable future.
