Water Main Replacement--Temporary Water Discoloration

The Brewster Water Department repaired a fire hydrant/water main issue into last evening. This affected a number of homes and a reverse 911 call was sent to those homes in the area. The line was repaired and some flushing occurred. A crew is on site conducting more flushing. Some residents have experienced discoloration and or some sediment when they turn on their taps. This is a normal occurrence after a main is repaired and flushing takes place. If the tap is run for a short period of time, the water should clear. If not, call the Water Department and an employee will come to your residence. The water is safe to use.
